Ridge, Hickton to Speak at Inaugural Cyburgh, PA Initiative Event

Article

January 5, 2016—The Cyburgh, PA Initiative will hold its day-long inaugural event on February 1 on the Carnegie Mellon University campus. The event, organized by the Software Engineering Institute, the Pittsburgh Technology Council, and Carnegie Mellon University, will bring local organizations together in candid dialogue to identify shared cybersecurity challenges, barriers to success, needed resources, and solutions. The goal of the initiative is to help organizations use the world-class resources available in Pittsburgh to create a local, collaborative cybersecurity innovation and education center.

“We’ll discuss how people, process, and technology can improve our collective security,” said the SEI’s Summer Fowler. “Even though cybersecurity is a technical capability, it requires all three components to work effectively.”

Fowler, technical director of cyber risk and resilience in the SEI CERT Division, heads the SEI team organizing and participating in the Cyburgh, PA Initiative. She will join Farnham Jahanian, Carnegie Mellon University provost, in opening the event and providing welcoming remarks.

Among the highlights of the Cyburgh, PA agenda are keynote addresses by the Honorable Tom Ridge, former governor of Pennsylvania and CEO of Ridge Global, and David J. Hickton, U.S. Attorney, Western District of Pennsylvania.
